How to Enable Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10/11 (Tutorial)


Are you missing the classic Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10 and Windows 11? Don't worry; I've got you covered. 

In this quick guide, I'll walk you through the steps to bring back the old photo viewer and enjoy its simplicity. Whether you're a fan of nostalgic interfaces or just prefer its functionality, you'll be able to restore the Windows Photo Viewer in no time.

Step 1: Visit the Download Page

To kick off this process, open up your preferred web browser and navigate to the WinAero Tweaker webpage. This is where you'll find the tool that will help us bring back the classic Windows Photo Viewer.


Step 2: Download WinAero Tweaker

On the webpage, scroll down until you spot the download button for WinAero Tweaker. Click on it to initiate the download. If you're hesitant about downloading third-party software, you can also perform the tweak manually by adding some registry entries and you can find guides on how to do that linked below:



Step 3: Extract WinAero Tweaker

Once the download is complete, navigate to your Downloads folder. Locate the downloaded WinAero Tweaker zip file, right-click on it, and choose "Extract All." Click "Extract" to unzip the contents into your Downloads folder.

Step 4: Install WinAero Tweaker

Run the setup file for WinAero Tweaker.
You may encounter User Account Control prompts – simply accept them.
Click "Next," then choose "Portable mode." Proceed by accepting the terms and clicking "Next" again.
The program will extract to the WinAero Tweaker folder on your C drive.
Click "Extract Files" and then "Finish."

Step 5: Access WinAero Tweaker

Open "This PC" and navigate to your local disk C. Locate the WinAero Tweaker folder and run the WinAero Tweaker application.
Accept any prompts and terms that may appear.

Step 6: Activate Windows Photo Viewer

Within WinAero Tweaker, scroll down the list of options until you find the "Get Classic App" section near the bottom.
Look for the option labeled "Activate Windows Photo Viewer."
Choose the "Activate Windows Photo Viewer" option.

Step 7: Set Windows Photo Viewer as Default

After clicking the activation option, your default apps settings will open.
Scroll through the list until you find the "Windows Photo Viewer."
Click on it to access the settings.
Configure all compatible file types to open with Windows Photo Viewer by selecting the option and clicking "OK."
Repeat this for each applicable file type.

Step 8: Enjoy the Old Photo Viewer

Exit the settings once you've set all file types to open with Windows Photo Viewer.
Now, when you open a picture saved on your computer, it will automatically open with the old Windows Photo Viewer, bringing back that nostalgic experience.
